Satellite Symposium

In conjunction the ECAT symposium a satellite symposium, entitled “Laboratory measurement of extended half-life FVIII and FIX products” will be organised on Wednesday 7 November 2018. With the appearance of extended half-life FVIII and FIX products for the treatment of haemophilia patients laboratories are faced with new challenges. ECAT Information: Special survey on Extended Half-Life FIX products

In co-operation with UKNEQAS (United Kingdom) and RCPA (Australia) the ECAT Foundation will organise a special survey for the measurement of extended half-life FIX products in plasma. The following products are included: Idelvion (CSL Behring), Alprolix (Sobi), Refixia/Rebinyn (Novo Nordisk) and BeneFIX (Pfizer). Laboratories are asked to measure these samples by their regular method (one-stage clotting assay and/or chromogenic assay) used in the laboratory. For each product two different samples are supplied. Each participant will receive the complete set of samples. If you would like to particiapte in the special survey, please register via the following link: https://nl.surveymonkey.com/r/EHLFIX

Case Report: A patient with acquired factor X deficiency and metastatic carcinoma of the bladder: is there a link between metastasis and factor deficiency in solid tumours?

Acquired deficiency of factor X is commonly found during antivtamin K therapy for the prevention of thrombosis or as a consequence of liver disease. Less frequently, it has been observed as an isolated deficiency in a number of disease states. It has been associated with the amyloidosis and haematological malignancies, and a few non-amyloid-related cases have been reported. Association with solid tumours is rare. We would like to present a patient with a transitional cell carcinoma who developed a factor X deficiency.

Literature Review: International normalised ration (INR) testing in Europe: between-laboratory comparability of test results by Quick and Owren reagents

(P. Meijer et al. Clin Chem Lab Med 2018; ahead of print)
Within the framework of the EQALM a study was designed to obtain an overview of the analytical quality of the prothrombin time, reported as INR and to asses the variation of INR results between European laboratories, the difference between Quick-type and Owren-type methods and the effect of using local INR calibration or not. In addition, the variation in INR results obtained for a single donation in comparison with a pool of several plasmas was assessed.
